Glo unveils data packages for Netflix
By Kokumo Goodie, Lagos, Nigeria
Millions of subscribers on the Globacom network have been advised to take advantage of the newly introduced internet movie platform, Netflix, to enjoy great entertainment under the company’s reliable data network and pocket-friendly data plans.
Through Netflix, an online movie site, customers will be able to access unlimited movies and television shows over the Internet, using their computers, mobile devices, television sets on a PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, or any other Netflix compatible devices.
All a telecommunication subscriber has to do, to enjoy this package is to subscribe to any of Globacom’s bumper data offers and then register as a member on the Netflix platform after an initial free trial period. All the data plans are Netflix compatible.
Globacom, in a press statement in Lagos last week, assured subscribers of pleasurable experience as soon as they migrate to the Netflix platform.

Two Glo Bumper Data offers on the Glo network launched recently, would give subscribers seamless and lengthy data experiences. With N3,000 data subscription, subscribers will get a huge 6GB data, valid for one month and those subscribing for N4000 plan will get 9GB data, also valid for a month.
To enjoy Netflix and other data experience, Globacom has also lined up other data packages including the N5,000 plan which gives 12GB data, the N8,000 plan which gives 24 GB data, and the N2,500 option for 4.5GB data. There are also the N2, 000 for 3GB data and the N1, 000 option which gives 1.5GB data; All plans come with a one-month validity.
According to Globacom, subscribers who wish to connect to the new bumper offers and enjoy Netflix should dial *777# to choose the relevant options on the interactive USSD portal.
In its latest quarterly report, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC)ranked Globacom as the largest network in new internet subscription. While all other operators cumulatively lost subscribers and had negative growth, Globacom added millions of new internet users to its network in the last four months of 2015.

Several attractive and user-friendly packages which offered a lot of appeal to data users were introduced recently by Globacom to boost its share of the data market. Free Tomorrow promo is one of them and it calculates all the value of airtime a subscriber uses in a day for internet services, phone calls and SMS, doubles the value and credits the subscriber’s phone by 12 midnight with the value.
The attraction in the data packages, according to Globacom, include extra free data and super fast connection speed as a result of excess capacity provided by Globacom’s massive Glo 1 submarine cable.
The cable which brings direct connectivity between West Africa, the UK and the rest of the world is linked to Globacom’s optic fibre cable spanning tens of thousands of kilometers across Nigeria, thus enabling the combined facilities to provide much faster and more robust connectivity for voice, data and video.
Globacom says these plans have enabled its data customers to enjoy fast and unlimited Facebook, twitter, Instagram and other social media and communication sites.
How does Netflix work?
If you’ve ever used a streaming service, Netflix’s interface will be instantly familiar, but even for first timers, getting started is a breeze. Your primary source of movies will be your queue. As you look through content on the Netflix website and app, you’ll see a little plus sign in a circle. This button adds things to your queue for later viewing.
When you start using Netflix, your queue will be empty. Enjoy this period. It will be the last time as a Netflix user your queue will be fresh and new. One day you will look out at the expense of your queue and say, “When the hell did I get so into shows about cake?”
Under your queue, Netflix offers several rows of options for movies and television shows, sorted by genre. As you watch more content, Netflix will learn about your viewing habits, offering up custom genres with colorful names like “80s action comedies” or “gory unconventional horror films for feminists.” Netflix’s algorithm is one of the smartest in the industry, so once you’ve moved past the stage where you’re just watching every big movie, take a chance on Netflix’s recommendations. You’ll be surprised how often they’re correct.
Netflix’s library contains a broad range of hit movies and shows from major networks. TV series like Arrow, The Flash, Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Walking Dead come to the service a few months after their official airdate.
Thanks to Netflix’s deal with Disney, it’s the first streaming service to find new Marvel Studios releases like Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange.
How much data does Netflix use?
A lot, but that might not matter depending on your mobile and internet plans, and it’s easy enough to adjust. Here’s a breakdown of how much data Netflix uses:
Low: Basic video quality uses up to 0.3 GB of data per hour
Medium: Standard video quality uses up to 0.7 GB of data per hour
High: Best video quality uses up to 3 GB of data per hour for HD and 7 GB of data per hour for Ultra HD
Automatic: Quality determined by your connection
Unlimited: The highest quality possible for your device and the show or movie you’re watching, peaks at the same rate as High.
Can you download with Netflix?
If you watch a lot of video on the road and want to save your data, Netflix has a leg up on the competition. You can easily download videos to their smartphones and tablets so you can keep the entertainment rolling even on the road without killing your cell phone bill. It’s easy. Jut look for the white download arrow on whatever you’re watching. (Here’s more info on how to download from Netflix if needed.)
How much does Netflix cost?
Netflix service comes in three tiers; Basic, Standard, and Premium. No matter what kind of subscription you have, you get access to the same content as everyone else. None of Netflix’s content is locked behind a paywall after you’ve subscribed.
For the $7.99 Basic plan, you can watch Netflix content on one screen at a time on any device that supports the service. Also, your streams will be in standard definition, which is as good as a clear standard broadcast TV show
