Lakers & Bucks Are Current Betting Favorites To Win 2020 NBA Championship

image

The 2019-20 NBA season has been suspended since March 11 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the league still hasn't decided if they'll resume play.

Before the season was suspended, the Milwaukee Bucks held the best record in the NBA at 53-12, followed by the Los Angeles Lakers at 49-14. As such, it is no surprise that the two teams remain the primary favorites to win the NBA Championship.

Sports Betting Dime lists the Lakers as the betting favorite to win it all at +200, followed by the Bucks at +230. The Los Angeles Clippers, led by 2019 NBA Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard, have the third highest odds at +275.

The Boston Celtics have the fourth best odds at +1200, followed by the defending champion Toronto Raptors and Houston Rockets at +1600. Among all playoff contenders, the Brooklyn Nets had the lowest odds at +6000.

For what it's worth, the Laker split the two-game season series this year. Having LeBron James go up against reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo would make for terrific theater.

Though the Bucks are the heavy favorites in the East, the Raptors (who defeated them in the Eastern Conference Finals last year) and Celtics (one of the most skilled rosters in the league) cannot be overlooked.

The Lakers may be the favorites in the West, but the Clippers proved to be a legitimate threat to them during the regular season. Leonard and company won two of the first three regular season meetings, so it's hard to consider the Lakers a bigger contender than the Clippers. The Rockets and Denver Nuggets shouldn't be counted out if the season resumes, however.

Of course, it's looking more and more likely that the league won't be able to continue the 2019-20 season. Earlier this month, ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported that there is " a significant amount of pessimism" that the 2019-20 season will continue. The 2019-20 NHL season and current MLS and MLB campaigns have also been suspended.
